FBI Director Christopher Wray has stated that it is likely that COVID-19 originated from a lab in Wuhan, China. Wray added that the Chinese government has been obstructing investigations into the virus’s origins. His comments follow the Department of Energy's assessment that COVID-19 was likely caused by an accidental lab leak in China. The FBI has specialists who focus on the dangers of biological threats, which include novel viruses like COVID-19. The National Intelligence Council has assessed "low confidence" that COVID-19 was deliberately
engineered, but could not rule out the possibility of accidental lab leakage. Other investigations into the origins of the virus are ongoing, including the World Health Organization’s investigation, which concluded that the virus probably originated from bats and was transmitted to humans through an intermediate animal.
