Eugene Lazowski was a Polish medical doctor who saved thousands of people during World War two by injecting dead Typhus cells into them, allowing them to test positive for Typhus despite being healthy. This played on German phobias about hygiene. Germans were afraid of the highly contagious diseases and refused to deport people to concentration camps. It's been estimated that 8,000 Jews were saved from these camps.
